Brown-Forman Brand Manager - Japan in Tokyo, Japan

Brand Manager will be responsible for championing growth of the BF Brands Portfolio (Early Times, Jack Daniel’s Family of Brands, Woodford Reserve family of brands, the Scotch Malt range, Chambord, Finlandia, Herradura and El Jimador tequila’s), including development and successful execution of all marketing programs. He/she will create brand enthusiasm and brand evangelism across Japan, assisting the Marketing Manager and working closely with the National Sales Planning Director and Sales Planning teams as well as distribution partners to assure timely development and delivery of the needed materials. He/she will also manage “day to day" needs of the brand (including track and reconcile BTL spending, actively manage brand P&L’s, logistical/supply chain support, etc.).

Job Responsibilities:

  • Support and Strategic initiatives include:

  • Lead the marketing initiatives within the Japan organization

  • Implementation of brand plans in liaison with Regional Marketing Director and Marketing Manager

  • Developing a close working relationship with global brand teams to align brand plans, long-term strategic direction and collaborate on building the required assets for the market

  • Trade Marketing support to harmonize / optimize brand requirements for brand building and field sales implementation including development of merchandising material and provision for sales/planning team implementation supporting respective brand strategies in market

  • Analysis on the range of brand financial metrics including brand expenses, volumetric and fiscal reporting and future projection forecasting.

  • Market Activation – co-ordination and management of field experiential marketing / event activation activities at major consumer events in line with respective brand needs.

  • Product Innovation and New Product Development – opportunity identification and quantification, planning, development, co-ordination and implementation of packaging and product innovation, new product development, pack and line range extensions

  • Develop talent through working closely with Marketing Manager and internal Sales Planning Managers

  • Lead in the discussions with the distributor partners assisting the Marketing Manager and National Sales Planning Director

Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with Marketing Manager and Regional Brand Director and serve as steward of brand equity and ensure that brand plans adhere to global strategy

  • Facilitate the interchange of brand strategy between Regional Marketing Director and Brand Staff and apply the proven brand building model for all brands. Work to broaden reach and penetration of promotional activity

  • Develop and manage brand objectives, strategies and promotional programs with strong consumer focus

  • Manage programs from development through to delivery and execution, assist in their evaluation.

  • Champion the Developing Brand Portfolio, creating enthusiasm and energy by providing brand education and training to promotion team and select accounts as required

  • Build strong working relationships with the National Sales Planning Director, National Off-Trade Manager, distribution partners and promotional agencies.

  • Manage brand P&L’s (including A&P tracking and reporting, discount and trading terms management)

  • Prepare and present product/brand presentations and proposals

  • Prepare sales forecasts and associated reporting

  • Liaise with agency partners in the design and production of marketing materials.

  • Work with all levels of field sales staff to ensure that marketing plans and tactics are appropriate for field based brand building activities

  • Participate in the weekly Sales Planning meeting to ensure that marketing plans are clearly communicated to field sales staff

  • Monitor brand performance against sales forecasts. Determine corrective action where necessary in conjunction with field sales staff

  • Be the contact person with Distributor marketing teams on relevant brands and inform on progress and results.

  • Involvement in annual budget and planning process.

  • Attend weekly business review meeting with Distributor and lead discussions

  • Ensure continued ongoing communication to Regional Brand Director or Global marketing teams about market and brand performance / strategy / consumer insights

  • Lead, in conjunction with Marketing manager, Regional Marketing Director and Country Manager, the new line development / product innovation / product introduction process in the business. Includes RTD product introductions, line extensions, repackaging and portfolio extension in market based on consumer / trade needs and insights

Required Education:

  • Education: College/University (Bachelors or Equivalent);

Required Experience:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Marketing, Business or a related field

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in a combination of consumer/trade marketing, sales, market research.

  • Strong financial interpretation skills at Brand or Market level (P&L)

  • Organized, self-motivated with initiative to work autonomously

  • Proven ability to plan and work with competing priorities

  • Strong time management and ability to work with tight deadlines

  • Excellent communication skills and a proven track record of building solid working relationships

  • Superior oral and written communication skills – English

  • Experience and demonstrate success in leading and coaching a team – prior leadership experience will be advantageous

  • Ability to synthesize and analyze insights and information from a range of sources and translate into commercial strategy and tactics at Brand and Market level.
